Subjects of Interest July 2012 Paper: Mass retail banking: how savings banks in Africa, Asia and Latin America can provide usable services to the poor Summary: World Savings Banks Institute (WSBI) is working with savings banks in order to double the number of savings accounts in the hands of the poor. This specific study relates to sharing lessons under the programme funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. POFIB Development BV via Piet Biemans in cooperation with Oxford Policy Management consultants , a British consultancy organisation, have been working with WSBI to document the product features and assess how savings banks can provide usable services to the poor.
